DAVID USILL
LOOKING DOWN

Images of the world from an aerial perspective. In seeking height for a different viewpoint, some of my photography is taken from an elevated position. My hot air balloon provides the platform for a series of images looking down on the landscape. Balloons flying underneath my basket add an extra element of colour to the composition. My next guiding principle is that “I see the world in colour". In the analogue era, I chose a fine grain transparency material, called Fujichrome Velvia, to provide the colour saturation needed for this type of photography. Now I chose to use Hasselblad medium format digital photography as this technology affords me higher resolution and more control for colour rendition.
