AN AWAKENING

MICHAEL POTTER & TIM BARKER

Since the birth of these two photographers, the planet's population has risen from 3.0 to over 8.0 billion.

60% of people are expected to be living in cities by 2030. (https://www.weforum.org/)

That will in turn encourage return visits to families and travel as an antidote to this new, urban lifestyle. With the speed and efficiency of international travel - journeying is often taken for granted.

The earth shows this through environmental changes and creates pressure on those who do not want to escape their indigenous habitats but require them to adapt regardless of their wishes.

Coincidentally, many of the people who remain appear happier than those seeking an alternative Western lifestyle or higher financial gain. That is an insight for us all. What happens to the earth and those people who remain are the core of this work.

This collection of images is a bookmark for how the world has altered, and what remains apparently unchanged to the casual eye.

Celebrated in the photographers' individual styles this is a dramatic and appealing collection of work that is both a reminder of what beauty still exists and why we must remain aware of the pace of change.
